*** 4.1 ***
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
The AE Alternative Energy Discussion Mailing List is intended
to provide a forum to discuss the current state of the art
and future direction of alternative energy sources that are
renewable and sustainable. It is *not* intended to discuss
either AE appropriateness or comparisons with conventional
energy sources such as fossil or nuclear fuels. Those
"discussions" are best relegated to the appropriate usenet
newsgroup.
An alternative energy source is taken to include solar, wind,
geothermal, tidal, electro-chemical, hydro-electric, or any
renewable and sustainable energy source. It is also assumed
to exclude fuels such as fossil and nuclear since these
literally take an act of God to create.
To subscribe to the AE mailing list, e-mail the command:
subscribe ae <firstname> <lastname>
to the Internet address:
listserv@sjsuvm1.sjsu.edu
or the bitnet address:
listserv@sjsuvm1
After subscribing, you may enable the digest feature by
sending "set ae digest" to the listserver. After
subscribing, messages may be sent to the list by sending to:
ae@sjsuvm1 (bitnet) or ae@sjsuvm1.sjsu.edu (InterNet).
The owner of this list is Clyde R. Visser, KD6GWN

ELECTRIC VEHICLES
The EV Electric Vehicle Discussion Mailing List is intended
to provide a forum to discuss the current state of the art
and future direction of electric vehicles. It is *not*
intended to discuss either EV appropriateness or comparisons
with other transportation primary drive modes such as the
venerable internal combustion engine. Those "discussions"
are best relegated to the appropriate usenet newsgroup. The
EV mailing list currently has over 400 subscribers.
An electric vehicle is any vehicle which uses an electric
motor as the primary or sole motive force. The energy
storage device used to drive said motor can use any
technology including, but not limited to, solar electric,
electric battery, fuel cell, internal combustion engine
coupled with a electric generator (hybrids), or any
combination of these.
Production electric vehicles are currently available.
Internal combustion engine vehicles can be converted to
electric. There exist a number of companies who perform this
conversion. There is also a number of manufacturers of
equipment allowing you to do-it-yourself.
To subscribe to the EV mailing list, e-mail the command:
subscribe ev <firstname> <lastname>
to the Internet address:
listserv@sjsuvm1.sjsu.edu
or the bitnet address:
listserv@sjsuvm1
After subscribing, you may enable the digest feature by
sending "set ev digest" to the listserver. After
subscribing, messages may be sent to the list by sending to:
ev@sjsuvm1 (bitnet) or ev@sjsuvm1.sjsu.edu (InterNet).

Answer to a frequently-asked question: Why isn't the guide organized by
subject? Because there aren't that many resources listed and most do not
focus on specific technologies or applications. When there are more
resources to list and they target specific topics (such as "wind power"),
it will make sense to index resources by subject. Your comments on this
are, of course, welcome. If there is a demand for a subject index, it
will be added.
*** 8.3 ***
Shortcut for finding sections: To jump to a main section, search for
"(#)", for instance, "(4)". To jump to a subsection, search for

(10) ABOUT CREST
-------------------------------------------------------------
The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST) is a
10,000 square foot educational resource center, hands-on demonstration
laboratory, and training facility opening in Washington, DC in 1994.
CREST focuses on renewable energy, energy efficiency, the environment, and
sustainable development. One of CREST's primary functions is to explore
and demonstrate the use of advanced information and communication
technologies in these fields.
CREST was created by the Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation, a
Washington-based, tax-exempt non-profit organization. CREST also works
closely with, and is secretariat of, the TerraMedia Collaborative, an
international coalition of institutions dedicated to producing interactive
multimedia applications for training and education in the fields of energy
and the environment.
CREST has been established to demonstrate renewable energy and energy
efficiency technology at work today and to encourage its use through
hands-on interaction and education. CREST will target several audiences
including government decision makers, utilities, educators, students, non-
governmental organizations, architects, engineers, and librarians.
CREST takes a three-faceted approach to achieving its mission:
* On-Site: The Center itself along with affiliated facilities
* On-Line: Internet-based and other on-line services
* On-Disc: CD-ROM education and training modules
reached in the most effective and cost-efficient manner
CREST's unique role is to catalyze, monitor, enhance, and publicize the
efforts of other institutions in the fields of focus. CREST is in
Washington because of the importance of educating decision makers who have
a critical role in energy, environment, and development policymaking.
